Selection Highlights

Thirteen of the seventeen players selected for the 2024–25 season's opening Test series participated in Pakistan’s last series against Australia in December and January of that year. Muhammad Huraira, Kamran Ghulam, and Muhammad Ali secured their positions by merit of their consistent performances for Pakistan Shaheens and on the home circuit. Naseem Shah returns to the red-ball team following a thirteen-month gap.

Consistent Performers

Kamran Ghulam made 148 runs in three innings vs Bangladesh "A" in Darwin last month, and he scored 1,025 runs in 11 first-class matches in the 2023–24 season. Returned is fast bowler Muhammad Ali, who was last seen in the first two Test matches against England in 2022. In six first-class matches during the 2022–2023 season, he took 24 wickets. In 14 first-class matches during the 2023–2024 season, he got 47 wickets.

Emerging Talent

Huraira scored two centuries last month in Darwin versus Bangladesh "A." Huraira was only one batter to surpass the 1,000-run mark in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2022–23, with 1,024 runs in 11 games for Northern. In 14 games during the 2023–24 first-class season, the 22-year-old right-hander scored 961 runs.

Players Not Retained

The following players were left off the Test team: Imam-ul-Haq, Faheem Ashraf, Hasan Ali (injured), Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Wasim Jr. (injured), Noman Ali, and Sajid Khan. Imam scored 94 runs in the Perth and Melbourne Tests after making 57 runs in the two Tests against Sri Lanka. Nawaz and Noman did not participate in any of the Tests, although Faheem got one wicket in the Perth Test and Sajid took three in the Sydney Test.
